The ten most stolen cars in the UK have been disclosed by a business that employs telemetric to track vehicles.
Experts in vehicle tracking Global Telemetrics has identified the top 10 most stolen cars in the UK, as well as geographic hotspots where the majority of cars are stolen.
The study’s researchers identified Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, and London as potential locations.
Global Telemetricsoperations manager Gavin Hennessysaid “Unfortunately, certain parts of vehicle theft will always be inevitable, especially for those drivers of highly desirable cars, vans, and bikes,” but it doesn’t mean vehicle owners can’t defend themselves.
“Using a tracker is the simplest method to assure that, in the worst-case scenario, you have a much better chance of getting your car back in one piece.”

Officers from the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS) successfully discovered £2.96 million worth of stolen vehicles at ports in the first nine months of 2021. This is an increase of 112 % over the value taken in 2020 (£1.39 million).
The Metropolitan Police Service advises motorists to take the following precautions to protect their vehicle:
- Always lock your car: even if you’re just filling it up or parked on your driveway. If your wing mirrors fold in automatically when the vehicle is locked, double-check them since criminal gangs hunt for vehicles with wing mirrors out because it’s obvious the vehicle was left unlocked.
- Safeguard the keys: When you’re at home and away from your front door, keep it hidden. Car keys are frequently stolen from inside your home by burglars using a stick and hook to catch them. Keep your electronic car key in a protective pouch while not in use to avoid being scanned by criminals.
- Take a look out for car thieves: When driving in traffic, keep your doors closed and allow enough room in front of your vehicle to get out of a tight spot.
- Avoid parking in the dark and in secluded areas: If it ensures your vehicle is safe, it’s worth the extra five- or ten-minutes’ walk. If at all feasible, park in car parks that are illuminated and staffed, or those that have received the Park Mark safer parking award.
- Keep an eye out for illegal tow trucks: which are frequently used by thieves to remove vehicles from the roadway. If you notice a towaway personnel acting suspiciously, call 911 right away.
- Install effective in-car security locks:and keep in mind that built-in steering locks aren’t impenetrable to thieves. - Check for cloning before purchasing: Always check the DVLA V5 form when purchasing a vehicle to ensure that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the vehicle matches the VIN on the document.
- Make sure your port is secure: Many current vehicles have engine management diagnostic ports that can be used to unlock and start the vehicle. Consider installing a lockable port if your vehicle has one.
