You can’t compare a Triumph to a Ducati in performance period. I have a Ducati 999 and if we are just talking about performance than yes the Ducati will beat the Triumph every single time. I just love the look of the Bonneville…especially in black..it’s a beautiful bike..it’s the bike James Dean rode…If you can only have one bike then yes, performance is a big deal. But if you can have a sportbike and a cruiser/standard than I would buy the bonnie and save the speed for the sportbike.

  2. other than the fact that these are retro looking bikes they have nothing in common. its unfair to say that a bike that cost at least 4k more is better..you pay for it. The bonnie should be compared to the motto guzzi or even a harley sportser 883. The ducati should be compared to something along the lines of the XR1200. Also you can get a basic bonnie for under 7K brand new…you would be hard pressed to find any bike better for that price.. They are both really awsome looking bikes.

  3. I’ve loved/owned Triumph motorcycles since the Meriden Triumph days. When I replaced my bike 8-10yr back, the 790cc Triumph was available and WHAT a disappointment! Had the looks I remembered, but BOY whatta slug. But now that its 865cc’s and fuel-injected, I haven’t test-ridden one, but the reports are all favorable. Took a look at the GT1000 a couple summers ago. Beautiful bike, but nobody’s talking about the maintenance required on those valves!

  4. I like the ducati

  5. What a garbage review. Complaining about things like how the bonnie has cast wheels, even though you could just get the spoke version. I could go on, but my biggest complaint is that the commentary was so damn dull and you could clearly hear him stumbling over parts of the obviously pre-written script. Have some charisma man!

@motocyklista17 I have owned both, they are great bikes, the duc can look a little hunched from the left side on its side stand, but very sweet from the right. The bonnie looks to chunky (compared to the old school Bonnies) from the right, the engine is a major let down as well as ar as looks go in comparison to the older bonnies.
As far as performance and fun factor goes the Duc wins buy a mile!

For me the two most beautiful classic motorcycles

  8. thetttttttttttt on August 14th, 2010 at 7:33 pm

This is ridiculous, yo buy these bikes because they kool, or because they remind you of the old bikes, so suitable for older bikers…..performance doesn’t come into it, this is pure passion of biking, not how fast it climes the revs.

  9. I dont like the low bonnie. Seems like a dwarf ride. Besides, since this review, Ducati has lowered their prices below a basic bonnie black…. at least in my country. So I just bought one :)

The Ducati GT1000 should not really be compared to a bonnie. I noticed that the basic build-up of the motorcycle was closer to a Honda Hornet (yes!) than a bonnie. So what I got was a modern bike with great looks…

    Happy camper!

  10. I just love Ducati for their pricing policy. Where I live the Ducati started out 20% more expensive than the bonneville. I will pick up a brand new Ducati GT1000 in a couple of weeks… 20% CHEAPER than the bonneville. Go figure. Is this typical for Ducati? Triumph never seem to have any “campagn” prices around here….

  11. the sport classic monos are so sexy its rediculous, but i do agree that this touring model is pretty hokie looking

  12. Yeah but the duc so is so damn ugly and the Bonnie is so damn sexy xD

  13. I have a GT100. I tried a Bonneville before deciding what to buy. The Ducati felt a lot more like a modern bike. its certainly quicker. 12,000 miles later I have no doubt I made the right choice.

  14. I don’t need to own both bikes to know which is the better performer. The price tag and stated specifications make that pretty clear. If performance is your goal, you could do better for the money that you pay for a Duc GT1k.

Why so eager to trash a bike that costs $4000 less and has 30hp less? Maybe because even this biased review concedes thats most people prefer the look of the Bonneville.

have you ridden a GT? all show no go? the GT is not a superbike, but it is fast!

  16. bonniville4eva on August 14th, 2010 at 7:33 pm

I have owned both at the same time, the bonneville is a nice bike, i just wanted more get up and go, while still riding a classic looking bike. The GT takes a bit of getting use to, ride wise that is, but is goooood fun, plain and simple.

  17. these bikes are not comparable, do an XR1200 vs. GT1000.
and the Moto Guzzi V7 classic vs. Bonneville…

Dear roynicator…I have owned both, or should I say I kept the one that takes the cake. MY GT1000..YOU have never owned or ridden either. My Duc IS worth 1/3 more the cost.PERIOD

  19. Sure, the Triumph has faux carbs. It would be pretty stupid to put real carbs on a fuel injected mc.

  20. Compared to a sportbike of equal value, your Ducati is ‘all show, no go’. The purpose of a ‘modern classic’ or ‘sport classic’ is to look and sound sexy, like something from a bygone era. The Bonneville does that better than the Duc at 2/3 the cost.

  21. the triumph is show without any go. the faux carb is disappointing. the word “poser” comes to mind. i love my GT1000T. it’s thrilling to ride as well as to look at.

  22. Nice vid. I just took a ride with a buddy who owns a Bonny (I have an ’07 GT1k) and let me tell you, I am very pleased to have the Duc.

lol they uploaded like 30 videos at once

  24. xxCaptainFishstix on August 14th, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Bout damn time you uploaded some videos.

  25. They are both completely different bikes. The Ducati might look a bit retro and cool but doesn’t feel or sound like an old school bike at all. The engine is too quiet and refined, chassis is too stiff and no real vibrations or throaty rumble. Totally not what I wanted/expected from a modern classic.

I test rode both, and for what I wanted, the Bonnie was a clear winner. I already have a Ducati 998s and love it, so wasn’t looking for speed and handling etc. I wanted all the other stuff !

I went for the T100 carbed version (late 2007), as I didn’t like the latest injected ones, and then replaced the end pipes with the Triumph options, and some carb tuning. Now sounds and feels great and plenty fast too.

It also has full analogue dials/clocks too, spoked wheels and a king and queen seat (option).

Highly recommend you guys find a used one, 3 years old, and try it !
