KTM 990 SMR v Ducati Hypermotard Evo SP
With the introduction this year of Ducati’s new lighter and more powerful 1078cc Hypermotard Evo SP, the Italian manufacturer now has a full-on, twin cylinder supermoto capable of taking on KTM’s previously dominant 990 SM-R.

@Ataylor0 You missed where I said the KTM looks better (and it does) . Your readin comprehention needs work as does your spelling (it’s knob with a K, like K-TM)
I really don’t care at all about 2D street racing. These guys reviewing do apparently as they made a point to do a track day with both bikes. I’ve got my bikes and I know which I’d choose between these two.
@artonsafari Hell yes go for a bike that looks better..
2 seconds quicker round a lap, who are you racing on a track day?
Yourself, in a proper race go for the KTM.
but id rather have a bike thats not as good and appreciate how it looks over 2 seconds quicker round a track which means jack shit in road riding.
Nob.
i wouldn’t say no to either of these if somebody gave me one, but i wouldn’t go out and buy one. Too damn ugly for a start.
is it normal for the brake fluid to be bouncing around in the reservoirs like that? I’d have thought it’d lead to air in the brake lines…?
Real supermotos are 125cc- 450cc dirtbikes with big breaks and slicks. thoes things are things are hypermotards… so basically superbikes with a different frame and suspansion. and since when do you go for looks and price over performance and useabilitY? besides the duck costs more in the long run…
@adoniscomplex thats what i though lol dangerous
2 seconds a lap is a MASSIVE difference. Really, the KTM can blow past the Ducati giving it a one wheeled salute so … theres no question, if your mate has a Ducati and you the KTM, you’d show him up at every opportunity and relish it.
@Blaze0303
*thumbs up*
Supermoto – Dirtbikes with 17″ rims and road tyres.
Hypermotards – KTM 990, Ducati Hypermotard.
that is womens sunglasses you are using…
@L4Isoside and the KTM’s got it in the looks department too. It’s just not a mystical, magical Italian bike that the mags seem to gush over and the Kool Aid sippers seem to swoon for.
@Blaze0303. Agreed.
great review, and i would also go for the hyper just cuz i like it more
and because its worse its actually better it just makes you happy and brings smile to your face those bikes exist for fun and which ones is faster doesn’t really matter
Sorry, but they’re NOT supermotos. . .
I have a 2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200 S, and I would have gone with the KTM 990 SMR if I were looking at these two bikes.
The guy at 6:10 who was passed on the inside and then the outside was probably like “WTF!”
@artonsafari its not all about performance though, you have to actually like the look of something too.
“We needed the KTM tools to work on the Ducati” Ducati FAIL
“Ducati looks better” Change the bong water doods.
KTM out performs the Duc, these two clowns even admit that, but would still go for the Ducati because it LOOKS better? Idiots.
What do you expect from a goon in Arlen Ness leathers.
Those bikes don’t belong on a racetrack imho. They’re more fun on smaller roads and pleasing the inner hooligan.
Just a fyi. The Hypermotard toolkit sits under the left ‘fairing’ panel which you can open with a coin so next time a Hypermotard riders comes asking for change you know what time it is. ;o)
The black suite LOOKS SO GAY!
WTF Dainese… do it all black… Ghost rider style!
Sure that the KTM is much better, and the engine is much better than this of the ducati… and they dont got any problems with them…
Ducati always
@yfm88 Because they are better. Everyone I talk to says KTM has big problems with engines and stuff like that
Decent sound track from empire. I could hear the bikes and dug the rock and roll. Too bad for KTM about the grading though, the sexy factor always get weighted heavy, kind of like having a harley over a yamaha v-star cruiser.
MCN always seems to favor ducatis.
I don’t know why the sound guys insist on putting a random music track under the riding scenes. The sound of the bike is the subject at hand, not some band music no one came here for.
Great, long, thorough review, with sights & sounds…
If one day we should get HD, it would be IT…
