Ducati 1098 v 999

To buy the unquestionably brilliant Ducati 1098S you will have to pay a staggering £9000 more than a used version of its predecessor the 999. Just think for the price of a new 1098S you can have used 999 and have enough change for leathers, a lid and a few track days. So, to find out if the new comer really is worth the extra, we took a 999 and a 1098S down to the Jerez circuit in Spain and entered them into an endurance race. 1. still love the 999

  2. @AroonR6 yes i know what you mean, but always remember that ducati has always dictated terms in design styling, you say 1098 is more similar to an r1 than a 999 is, true, but the japaneses copied ducati design of the 916/996/998 in order to improve their bikes. the same happened with the exaust: ducati was the first with the exaust under the seat, than yamaha and honda copied it for the R1 and the CBR. what i’m triing to say is: japanese are similar to ducati but not viceversa :)

  3. This is pretty much worthless, testing a 999 vs 1098s? Why not 999s and 1098s? I guess we just need to read between the lines.

FWIW, the 999 is effin gorgeous in my eyes.

so you tested the 1098S vs the 999?

    Wanted to have the 1098win?

    What about testing a 999R vs a 1098?

  6. I’ve not rode a 999 but the 1198s and the bike I rode handled perfectly compaired to the standard 848 and 1098. I don’t know if it was because its an s model or it was just set up well. I personally like the looks of the 1098/1198 range better than the 999. Lets not forget that many of these bikes have so many adjustments, they can all be made to suit a rider better. There all good bikes really. I might get an 1198s, not just for speed and cornering but fo the newer engine and maitainance.

  7. And the 999 being raced is a standard model not an R.

  8. Comparing the 999 to the 1098 is pointless, two totally different machines, from geometry to engine, but i’ll say this give me a Fila rep999R and i’ll be happy, that bad boy eats normal machines like the 1098, r1, gixxer, where the 1098 has more grunt the 999R handles way way sweeter, you’ll be in and out of corners b4 the twat on the 1098, it’s a far more precise ride, saying that i reckon the Irving Vincent would eat them both no question

  9. The 1098 is an improved version of the 999r otherwise they would’nt have made it into production or teams would be still using the 999 in race events. Personaly i think they a study of art but way over price’d an a waste of money. id have an R1 over them any day, was an r1 that won the wsbk championship, infact they one just about every prfessional comp… in europe. wast of money. In prouction race events a ducati wont have a chance against the rest of the class as proving in many events.

  10. Apparently the 999 is more comfortable cos of the adjustable footrests etc. Personally I’d prefer a 999 because they look so different to anything else, whereas the 1098 pretty much looks like an R1, a ZX10 or even a Blade to an extent, albeit it a bit prettier than those bikes

  11. Well I’m actually saving for a 1098s or 1198 possibly. I decided I would like a newer model and after I test rode an 1198s an 848 and streetfighter s and 1098. I still haven’t made up my mind but the top suspention on the 1198s and the streetfighter s has made me relise how much I desire the handling. I even found it handled better than the 848. So for me i’m thinking of either 1098s or 1198. The streetfighter was awsome but I like faired bikes. The torque makes you smile.

  12. Tell me about it.The first Ducati I’ve ever ridden and owned was a 999 with full termis and I absolutely loved it. I eventually had to sell it as I fell victim to lay-offs but gawd damn I want to have one again.

If you’re ever in a position to get one, don’t think about it and just do it. You won’t regret it.

  13. Wish I could say, I’ve only ever owned a 999 and am curious how it compares to the 1098 as well as I’m considering getting a 1098 soon. :/

  14. i prefer the 999r it’s been my fav ever since……..like 4ever

  15. I’ve recently been curious to what a 999 is like to ride, i’ve rode a 1098 and sometimes considering buying one but with the price of a 999, it’s kinda tempting, Would I be dispointed with the engine and how does it handle compaired with a 1098 ?

for 5 thousand pounds! thats amazing! even old second hand ones on Aus you’ll be looking at 19 grand (around 9 thousand pounds. id kill for value like that on such and amazing bike! even if it is the ugely duckling haha

  17. i would love any of these two bikes…

  18. true very true

  19. Ma che paragoni fate!!!
La 1098 sta avanti almeno 10 anni!!!

  20. 999/749 series being the least attractive of Ducati’s is like saying: “This girl is the least attractive Victoria Secret model”.

  21. Im a Ducatista at hart but the 9 (meaning termination on 9) series are the ugliest bikes they made, like some one said that never happened.

  22. lol yep =)

  23. oh lol

  24. you are. the 999 came before the 1098. after the 1098 ducati just came out with the 1198… then on top of that they released the desmoseideeci which is a motogp replica aka suicide on two wheels.

The 999′s are beautifully different and the ergonomics are second to none
